iSync and Nokia 5300

July 22, 2007 | mac os x

When I tried to synchronize Nokia 5300 and Mac OS X first time, I was unpleasantly surprised – iSync does not support this Nokia model. After researching I changed the file

1
/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/BaseSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist

and added following:

And it works. But there is one bad issue — I had to change this file again after iSync 2.4 release.

Recently, I read about iSync plugins for Nokia 6300 and Nokia E65 (thanks go to authors who are sharing their knowledge) and decided to make one for Nokia 5300. My first experience with Xcode was successful and the plugin was released. Just download it, extract the file to ~/Library/PhonePlugins/ and finally restart iSync.

    Hi Tony.
This plugin works with oldest version of iSync (as I remember 2.4).
Please, read this article or just download this installer.

    People may be interested in this correspondence from Nokia;
What it means is you will be able to transfer music and photos but I suspect it won’t fix the iSync problem.
(Tony I am running 10.5.2 and iSync 3 and it works for me)

    From Nokia support;

    Hi
Firstly apologies. I sent you the email below indicating that the 5300 was now supported, but in fact it is the 5310. My mistake
So the 5300 is not currently supported
However we will try and generate a new profile for the 5300 as soon as possible
In theory it should take just a 1~2 weeks

Once again apologies for this mix up

    Regards Steve

    Hi
As someone who has submitted feedback, you might like to know that Nokia Multimedia Transfer 1.3 is now available
It includes support for the 5300 classic
You upgrade the application itself, if you have it already installed
    Or download it from here
    http://www.nokia.com/mac/multimediatransfer
Please note the web site is being updated, but if you download you will get version 1.3

I have downloaded ‘Nokia Multimedia Transfer’. As Ray wrote it still does not support Nokia 5300. I hope it will support my phone in the near future.

    Stay tuned :)

    Well Done.

  5. erka says:

    Hello all.
I have a great news for you. Nokia Multimedia Transfer works with Nokia 5300. Download or update it. Turn on bluetooth and have fun.

  6. Stuart says:

    Simple, efficient, effective. Nice one.

  7. kristina says:

great job! thank you so much!

  8. Scott says:

Awesome! Thanks for doing this! Couldn’t have been simpler!

    - Downloading and running installer (~15 sec)
    - Enabling bluetooth on my 5300 (~10 sec)
    - Pairing phone with computer (~30 sec)
    - Running iSync and syncing 186 events to phone (~20 sec)

Having my phone’s calendar and contacts in sync with my mac — PRICELESS!

  9. Andre says:

    Hi!
Did anybody manage to get USB syncing to work? The Nokia software only works for music/photos but it lacks the fundamental calendar/contacs syncing….
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks!
    A.

Took a moment to realize it needs bluetooth- but your basically my hero- rebooting into bootcamp xp to do contacts sucks

  11. Rose says:

Thank you SO SO SO much for this. Worked perfectly for me using BlueTooth :) :)

  12. Kurt says:

I broke the screen on my 5300, and thought i lost my contacts for ever. I never took did this before because iSync didn’t work like it was supposed to out of the box. With this new functionality, i almost wish i could replace the screen and use the phone for good!!!

Many thanks and kudos for this app!!! you are my hero today.

  13. Jorge says:

Hej you lucky 5300 users! I have the Nokia 3500 (classic) and I used the trick with the name changing on Tiger, but now on Leopard it wont work anymore, what do I have to different then on tiger or how is your installer working?

I tried the Metaclasses file further down in the BaseSync.phoneplugin folder you suggested and used instead of 5300 3500 (only a change of numbers, come on this should work!) and I also tried 3500c for classic. But Isync always tells me, that it doesn’t support this phone.

By the way I also tried the folder PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin. Aint working either.

    Any hints?

(this new Multimedia tool from Nokia is kind of nice. I would have never gone out looking for something like this on my own on their homepage)

  14. Norbert says:

Hello, just did the same trick here with a Nokia 5000. Why wouldn’t Apple and Nokia want there customers to use iSync? Doesn’t make any sense to me… Anyway, thanks for the tip, Erka.

  15. Prashant says:

    great work, thanks!

Hi guys, so sorry to be a pain, but I work in the middle of Africa and so have no other access to any reliable tech support…

On my yearly shopping trip home I made the move to switch over to Mac, as well as purchasing a new Nokia 5000… See above for problems, i.e. iSync… What a bunch of crap…! I’ve spent close to $5000 on Mac and Nokia stuff in the last month only to find out the machines wont communicate with each other because no one in the organizations will bother to write the script to make it happen… I couldn’t be any angrier…

Anywho, is there anybody who could explain in detail how to amend the plugin for a 5000 much like Norbert did above. Sorry to be a newbie pain, but I’m in the middle of Zambia and on my way to Somalia, I could really use a hand! Thanks so much in advance, appreciate anyone who can assist…

    Hi Tiny,

I am running Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.1), 64 bit mode, and installed your iSync plugin Nokia 5300 for Mac OS X Leopard. When I sync with Nokia 5300, it crashed. I guess it resulted from the incompatibility of version. Could you make a binary plugin for 10.6.x? Thanks.

I still can’t buy Mac OS X Snow Leopard :( As soon as I get it I will do it
